Emerging stronger after crisis

WHEN an unemployment crisis threatened Penang in 1970, the state government led by the then Chief Minister Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu launched an economic recovery through the introduction of free trade zones.

The developments, which were done through the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) between 1970 and 1985, led to Penang’s status as a leading economic growth centre in Malaysia today.
