RICE is a staple diet of Malaysians. According to a report by the Global Agricultural Information Network, domestic rice consumption has grown slightly, from 2.75 million tons in 2017/18 to 2.8 million tons in 2018/19.
The moderate increase is attributed to a shift in eating patterns from a high-carbohydrate diet to a healthier high-fibre alternative diet, especially among the young working adult population.
