SIMPANG RENGGAM: The Education Ministry has taken the necessary steps to ensure the new school term will not be affected by floods hitting several parts of Johor.
Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the ministry had taken precautionary measures following the standard operating procedures (SOP) that was in place.
“The district Education Department officers have their respective SOPs in facing natural disasters such as floods.
“In fact, they are ready to act in emergencies, ” he said after attending a back-to-school programme organised by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) at SMK Simpang Renggam here.
In the programme, 600 students aged between seven and 17 from Simpang Renggam received school items.
PTPTN has allocated a total of RM634,400 to aid the needy, with RM97,000 for those in Simpang Renggam.
Maszlee, who is Simpang Renggam MP, reminded the public to stay safe during the monsoon season.
“Keep important documents and valuables ready to be taken along in case floods affect your homes, ” he said.
“I hope all will adhere to safety measures, like not allowing children to play in floodwaters, to avoid mishaps, ” he said.
