THE Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) is organising a landmark entrance design competition for the people to participate.

It is one of the various programmes organised after the council received its city status on Sept 16, said MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.

The provision of the landmark comprises a welcome sign with the wording ‘Selamat Datang ke Seberang Perai’.

The first prize winner will receive RM1,000, while the second and third prize winners will receive RM700 and RM400 respectively.

Seven consolation prize winners will walk away with RM100 each.

All winners will also receive certificates of appreciation while the rest will receive certificates of participation.

Rozali announced the competition at a press conference after chairing a full council meeting at the MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam recently.

He said the competition, themed ‘Seberang Perai Aspirasi Bandar Masa Hadapan’, aimed to discover new ideas for attractive landmarks while improving the quality of the symbolic and authentic urban spaces.

“In addition, the competition promotes a culture of creativity and innovation among the general public, ” he said.

The competition, which is limited to the first 100 participants, is only open to Seberang Prai residents aged 18 and above.

Each participant can only submit one design.

Entry forms can be obtained at the MBSP landscape department at the magistrate court building in Jalan Kampung Jawa, Butterworth, or downloaded from www.mbsp.gov.my.

The closing date to submit the entry forms is Dec 31.
