PLATINUM Victory crowned 34-year-old Zulhazman Abu Bakar as the grand prize winner in its “Paint The Town Green!” award design competition.
The competition for The Palette by Platinum Victory, a contemporary 3ha lakefront commercial and social space in Setapak, saw Zulhazman walking home with a cash prize of RM8,000.
A total of RM23,000 was up for grabs in the contest.
The sustainability-themed competition took place from June 14 to Sept 30, and was open to those aged 18 and above.
Over 150 submissions were received, where participants were given an option to submit their conceptual drawing entry individually or up to five in a group incorporating hardscape and softscape elements.
The submissions showcased talent, innovation and sustainable designs in the three required aspects: interior design, landscaping and architecture.
The 25 shortlisted finalists each had the opportunity to present their designs to the judging panel through a sharing session before the panel chose the 10 winners.
The panel comprised Arkilab creative director Michael Gibert, IN Publishers founder Iko In, Deco Sales of Kansai Paint Malaysia director Owen Tan, Hashim Design landscape architect Nur Maihan Muhammad and Platinum Victory executive director Gan Yee Hin.
“I feel very satisfied that my hard work has paid off. I spent weeks working on my design proposal after office hours every night, ” said Zulhazman, a design manager by profession.
Gan said the competition had provided a platform to showcase and nurture budding talents in the field of design.
“The submissions proved there is a healthy pool of eco-minded, design talents with potential in Malaysia and unearthed hidden creative talents.
“Given the opportunity and guidance from industry experts, we can see more talents coming forward.”
Through their new commercial and social hub, The Palette by Platinum Victory which focuses on sustainability, Gan hoped that the public would be inspired to move towards sustainability in everything that they do – not only at home but at the office and public spaces.
“To encourage social interaction, The Palette by Platinum Victory has architectural features including alfresco dining for an urban leisure experience.
For a dynamic and eclectic mix, tenants that make up the new social and commercial space consist of Aeon Big Danau Kota, McDonald’s, KyuKashi, Inside Scoop, San Francisco Coffee, Thai Boy Street Food, and Uncle Don’s.
The competition was organised in collaboration with various universities, institutions and strategic partners including colour sponsor Kansai Paint.
The Palette by Platinum Victory is targeted to be fully operational by Q1 of 2020.
