The Jasper II seating system and Sleep+ range of mattresses earned top honours at the 61st annual Good Design Awards Ceremony held in Sydney this year.
With a history dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards highlights new products and services; celebrates the best in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design; and honours innovative design strategy and design entrepreneurship.
Close to 700 products were evaluated this year, representing a record number of submissions in the history of the awards.
The Jasper II seating system won the Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the category of product design.
It received praise from the jury, who said: “Function, form and style all wrapped up in seriously good design. This is a versatile and super comfortable sofa with clever storage design features and customisable options.
“Coupled with an innovative media console, plug-in tables and clever tech integration, the Jasper II is a shining example of good design in this category.”
Meanwhile, the Sleep+ mattress range, which bagged a Good Design Award Gold Accolade in the category of product design, was said to be a “great design with a massive amount of thought and innovation”.
“At last, a bed that considers the change in seasons. Innovative, beautifully resolved with an excellent comfort level. There is also a huge capacity for customisation,” said the jury.
Both products were judged based on the attributes of good design, design innovation and design impact, and they impressed by excelling on all three fronts.
“Receiving a Good Design Award at this level is a significant achievement given the very high calibre of entries received this year,” said Good Design Australia chief executive officer Dr Brandon Gien.
“Australia’s Good Design Award is more than a symbol of design excellence; it represents the hard work and dedication towards an innovative outcome that will ultimately improve our quality of life.
“These projects showcase the brilliance of design and the potential it has to improve our world,” added Dr Gien.
