JOHOR BARU: Johor Health Department is prepared for any emergency that may take place if the state gets hit by floods during the current monsoon season.
Its director Dr Aman Rabu said the department had been working closely with enforcement agencies such as the police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force as part of its preparation for the monsoon season.
“The department has taken part in joint operation trainings, which is held on a regular basis, to prepare our medical teams for floods-related emergencies.
“We are ready to receive any patients that show symptoms of contagious disease due to the floods, ” he said when contacted here.
He also said the public, especially those living in flood-prone areas, should equip themselves as well with emergency supplies and medical kits in case of emergency.
Dr Aman pointed out that the public should always follow the weather updates posted by Meteorological Department on social media.
“The most important thing is to keep enough water supply for consumption and hygiene.
“The public should also stock up on canned foods and batteries for torchlights in case the floods occur at night, ” he said.
Dr Aman also advised the public not to consume any food that had been exposed to flies and floodwaters.
“The public should refrain from doing any outdoors activities if their house is surrounded by floods, to avoid contracting any water-borne diseases, ” he added.
