Melaka prepares for floods after ‘unusual’ rainfall


The state government is spending millions of ringgit to improve the infrastructure to prevent floods by upgrading water pump stations and the drainage system in flood-prone areas. - Bernama

MELAKA: Local authorities in the state are preparing flood contingency measures after an unusual volume of rainfall hit Ayer Keroh, affecting some 270 households and damaging about 25 cars earlier this week.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department database showed that Ayer Keroh recorded rainfall of 46.4mm within a two-hour period on Dec 1, which is equivalent to five days’ of rain, while some housing estates that were affected by flash floods were previously not categorised as flood-prone areas.
