Malaysian mattress maker bags global award for fifth time

GETHA has won the Brand Of The Year 2019–2020 in Mattress & Bedding, Furniture for the fifth time at the World Branding Awards at Kensington Palace in London, UK.

The event was organised by the World Branding Forum (WBF), a global non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing branding standards.

Since 1969, Getha has specialised in making 100% natural latex bedding products using one of Malaysia’s national treasures to help the world sleep better.

All its products are purpose-built with modern lifestyles in mind.

25 countries and advocates green lifestyle to protect the environment.

Getha founder Vincent Tan said many famous international rubber brands used Malaysian latex but do not acknowledge that it’s from Malaysia.

“It is a shame if we do not do more to make a name out of something right at our doorstep.

“This is why Getha is important, to create something out of what we have that reflects well on our country,” he said.

WBF global chairman Richard Rowles said to build a brand requires dedication and commitment that takes many years.

“Getha has won the Malaysian public’s trust,” he added.

Over the past 50 years, Getha has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers and retailers for 100% natural latex bedding products.

The first mattress company to open its standalone retail store in Sungai Besi, Selangor, in 2006, Getha is now the only bedding company in all first-tier malls nationwide with over 20 Getha stores.

While the company’s services and operations have expanded, the underlying principles have remained constant.

Proudly celebrating the 50-year milestone, Getha hosted a gala at the Mandarin Oriental with partners and employees.

Its chief executive Melissa Tan Chienyi said they are driven by an entrepreneurial spirit that enables them to push new boundaries.

“We are grateful for what we have achieved and look forward to the next 50 years,” she said.

The company celebrated its anniversary throughout the year by giving back through social

initiatives such as contributing RM50,000 to the well-being and conservation of orang utan in

Zoo Negara, donating over 1,000 pairs of school shoes to children across 17 different homes and foundations, blood donation drive, charity bazaar, soup kitchen and donations to several orphanages and homes for the elderly.
