THERE is more than just a big Ibiza-themed party set to take over the revamped REXKL in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow night.
Brought to you by JK58 Asia and Club Kyo KL in partnership with AirAsia RedTix, Ibiza giant Circoloco @ DC10 makes a debut appearance with guest headliners Peggy Gou, Dixon and wAFF.
JK58 Asia is an experiential agency that has big plans for the future.
“Our first event sees us collaborating with an internationally-renowned brand that has been around for 20 years and has sustainability at the core of its values, ” said JK58 director (Asia) Joseph Sabeh Afaki.
“The event is exclusive to Kuala Lumpur and features extremely popular artistes with a joint social media following of about 1.4 million people.
“This joint effort will incorporate sustainable products and services in the event, enabling attendees to purchase exclusive products and services from ethical Asean labels as well as donating to AirAsia Foundation’s cause.
“Our efforts include no single-use plastics, tetra-pak water bottles, portable ashtrays and bamboo RFID tags.”
JK58 Asia, headquartered in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates with a presence across the Middle East, Europe and Asia, recently set up office in Malaysia with the aim of contributing positively to the local scene and economy.
The current collaboration aims to shed light on the planned Kuala Lumpur Creative and Cultural District (KLCCD) initiative by organising different events in its designated radius.
“KLCCD is a community-focused urban regeneration organisation. It undertakes exciting projects that amalgamate the togetherness and ethos of Kuala Lumpur and maintaining the heritage and cultural sites as well as services while bringing it to light.
“It is an organisation we can all get behind and support as they aim to evolve the way in which cities are planned, developed and celebrated, ” Sabeh explained.
“One aim from this project is to work with the existing community while also bringing our perspective when it comes to what we do best, which are art and music events.
“Our initiatives include the core values of what the city is aspiring to be at the moment, which is greener and waste-free, ” he added.
Circoloco & DC10 in Ibiza have been pushing sustainability as well. On its season opening this year in May, it announced the ban on single-use plastic in an Ibiza-wide initiative to reduce the amount of trash annually.
Apart from that, founder Antonio Carbonaro and his wife, herself a UNHCR ambassador, recently set up the Unicef X Circoloco charity drive that saw the couple raising funds for refugees in Lebanon, Syria and Libya.
“The artistes we have booked for this event have also been heavily involved in numerous initiatives worldwide.
“Dixon headlined a charity event at one of Berlin’s premier dance clubs, Watergate, which channelled funds to Sea-Watch and the Centre for Political Beauty, two charities that provide assistance to refugees looking to make their way into Europe.
“Peggy Gou has also done a fair bit of philanthropic work over the last year, donating to many charities and advocating her stance on the recent climate crisis, ” said Sabeh.
Tomorrow’s event is just the beginning of more to come.
“As part of an effort to give back to the community, JK58 Asia, AirAsia RedTix, and RexKL will together found the Petaling Street Artist Development Foundation aimed at creating a platform for young emerging artistes in Kuala Lumpur to not only receive monetary help but to engage and be a part of a community.
“JK58 Asia & Airasia RedTix aim to channel a certain percentage from each event produced at REXKL towards the foundation. This initiative is in the works and should come into play by March 2020, ” Sabeh added.
Circoloco opens doors at 8pm tomorrow at RexKL in Jalan Sultan.
