FOUR schools in Seberang Prai will be receiving copies of The Star’s Newspaper-in-Education (Star-NiE) pullouts, thanks to total supply chain solutions provider Flex Penang.

The high-tech Sketch-to-Scale solutions provider has stepped in to sponsor 6,250 copies of the pullouts worth RM10,000 to SJK (C) Permatang Tinggi, SJK (T) Ladang Juru, SMK Seri Nibong and SMK Bayan Lepas starting next year.

Flex Asia marketing and communications senior director Ho Chu Hor said the initiative marked Flex Penang’s third year in supporting education through reading and learning using newspapers.

“This is a small effort to support students who have limited access to newspapers,” he said at the handing over of the sponsorship from Flex Penang operations director A. Muniandy to Star Media Group circulation manager M. Manimaran at Flex Penang P5 plant in Prai recently.

Also present were Flex Penang human resource director Hasifah Wati Harun and Star Media Group circulation (north) assistant manager Eileen Ooi.

Present in Malaysia since 1988, Flex currently occupies more than 4 million sq ft footprint, with 19,000 employees in 12 facilities.

The Star-NiE programme has been conducted in thousands of classrooms in Malaysia since it was launched in 1997.

The product incorporates Higher Order Thinking Skills activities for teachers to teach English in classrooms using authentic situations.

Thirty-three issues of the pullout, which are available through school subscription only, are endorsed by the Education Ministry.
