Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) will be organising a fun run to raise funds for charitable organisations.

It will hold its 6th MRCA Charity Run 2019, themed “Pre-Countdown 2020” at Summit USJ, Subang Jaya on Dec 14.

At the press conference in Summit USJ, MRCA president Datuk Seri Garry Chua said the association was targeting to raise RM50,000 for the underprivileged and mentally challenged.

“We hope to raise more money for 10 homes this year, ” he said, adding that it was also part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

Chua believes the run will also be a good platform to encourage a healthy lifestyle, family bonding and engagement with the public.

“This is the first time we are having an evening run, so the response will be different and should create a lot of excitement, ” he said.

Its organising chairman Jordan Ng said there would be two categories for the non-competitive run this year.

Ng said the 10km and 5km fun run would be open to the public.

“It is more of a family run, to allow them to bring their children and other family members to run together and have fun. We want it to be enjoyable.”

He said they were expecting between 2,000 and 2,500 participants.

Ng said there would also be a pre-celebration, including a mini concert, lucky draw sessions and a fireworks show, to usher in 2020 with participants.

He said Huawei handphones, Samsung TV, branded watches and bicycles would be among the prizes worth over RM20,000 in the lucky draw.

“We will be giving out differently shaped medals to the finishers and it will be one part of a five-point star, which the participants will be able to form if they take part in the run every year for five years.

“This year, each runner will get the ‘M’ finisher medal upon completion of the run, ” he said.

Registration fee for the 10km run is RM48 and RM38 for the 5km run.

“We are looking for more sponsorship. Any sponsor with above RM3,000 in cash or kind will get its company logo printed on the T-shirt for runners.”

MRCA Charity Run was initiated by Datuk Lee Hwa Cheng in 2014 to raise funds for charity.

The selected recipients will receive cash donations from the MRCA Branding Education Charity Foundation.

The foundation was established in 2010 by Datuk Tay Sim Kim to provide educational and financial assistance to needy groups and assist other charitable activities.

He said those interested to join the run in groups of 20 could contact MRCA Secretariat at 03-5882 4333 for registration, or opt for registration in bulk via mrcacharityrun@gmail.com

Those interested can register via the MRCA website at mrca.org.my/activities/events

Each participant is entitled to a T-shirt, finisher medal and certificate, while those participating in the 10km run will also get a cap. Registration will close on Nov 29.

Summit USJ is the corporate partner. Cash sponsors —Bannerking Sdn Bhd and BHS Book Printing Sdn Bhd — are executive sponsors while Poh Kong Holdings Bhd is the run’s premium sponsor.

Embun Elit Sdn Bhd (Himalaya) is the goodie sponsor while Fiffy Sdn Bhd is the lucky draw sponsor.

The Summit Subang (USJ Management Corporation) chairman Zuhairy Md Isa said they were supporting the run as a neighbourhood mall.

“We support charity and community-related events.

“We will promote the run to all our 560 retail lot operators at Summit USJ and shoppers, ” added Zuhairy.

MRCA, founded in 1992, comprises more than 530 retail chain store operators as well as franchisers, covering over 30,000 outlets throughout Malaysia.

Also present at the press conference were Subang Jaya Municipal councillor (JKP Zone 3) Lee Jen Uyin and MRCA vice-president Datuk Liew Bin.
