THE inaugural Perak International Expo (PIEX) 2019 has been launched by Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah Muizzuddin Shah at Stadium Indera Mulia in Ipoh.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, state committee members as well as domestic and international delegates attended the largest trade exposition organised by the Perak government.

“The state government has been working hard towards transforming Perak into a new age economic hub, where talents and resources need to be combined with the most innovative ideas to attract global investors, ” said Ahmad Faizal in his opening remarks.

“We believe that Perak has much potential and all it needs is a platform to shine. We realise that we must play a crucial role as facilitator in finding and empowering the right kind of investors, hence the setting up of PIEX to showcase our seriousness in tapping into the ever-evolving industrial revolution.”

With the theme “Offering Infinite Possibilities to the World”, the expo comprises four major parallel events, namely the large-scale gathering of local and international dignitaries for Pangkor Dialogue; Pride of Perak; Perak International Halal Expo 2019; and Perak Startup Festival 2019.

“Through this expo, we also hope to promote youth entrepreneurship. Our government is committed to strengthen the role of young people, so they continue to collaborate with new ideas, initiatives and inspiration.

“We have put in much effort into enhancing the talent pool. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes have been given a lot of attention in the past years in order to increase the number of students and professionals in TVET, ” he said, adding that the government would continue to ensure Perak remained attractive and competitive.

The expo, which is co-organised by InvestPerak and Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has some 400 exhibitors from 26 countries, including China, Japan, Brazil, German, Sweden, Belgium and Taiwan.

Co-hosted by Institute Darul Ridzuan and Tourism Perak, the event which takes place until Nov 17 at Stadium Indera Mulia is also supported by Perak Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce, North Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry Perak Branch and Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers Perak Branch.

State investment, industrial and regional development committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the expo was not to be missed by all, especially the people of Perak.

Mohammad Nizar, who is the main committee chairman of PIEX, said the expo represented a unique platform to enhance trade, business, investment and economic opportunities among domestic and global industry players.

“This year, the theme for Pangkor Dialogue 2019 is Investing for a Sustainable Future and it will deliberate on a few pressing issues relevant to Perak and the world.

“This includes sustainable tourism, ageing, youth, Industrial Revolution 4.0, technology and economy that present the potential for continued growth and prosperity for the state.

“PIEX is an expo that involves participation of major Perak-based manufacturers and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“The event will not only focus on economic sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, education, natural resources and property investments but will also have business matching and networking sessions as well as seminars and product showcase to gather valuable insights on current trends, strategies, innovations and digitalisation technologies, ” he said.

He said the state hoped local entrepreneurs and the public would make an effort to visit the expo for business opportunities and networking.
