ROTARY Club of Sungei Way and Hospital Selayang Volunteers Association brought smiles and joy to 80 adults and 100 children, who were warded at the hospital for various illnesses.

They spent more than three hours to distribute goodie bags and mingle with the patients in conjunction with the year-end festive season.

Event organising chairman Julee Cruz said they visited seven different wards to bring cheer to the less fortunate and patients.

Cruz expressed gratitude to all members, who sacrificed their time to take part in the meaningful community project.

“We woould also like to thank our sponsors — Datta Shree and Indah Water Konsortium — for their contributions.

“Our guiding principles are truth, fairness, goodwill and friendship.

“We are committed to ‘Service Above Self’ through five avenues namely club, vocational, community, international, and youth, ” said Cruz, who has been a club member and volunteer for 10 years.

Another project of the club, she said was a visit to KidZania, a theme park offering children career role play.

Benefiting from this were some 200 Year Six pupils from SK Sungai Way, SK Kampung Jawa 2, SK Kelana Jaya and the Rumah Juara orphanage.

“We also conducted a literacy programme in SK Sungai Way since 2010.

“Two English classes are held every Friday to teach and encourage pupils to learn and converse in English, ” she said.
