Errant tourist attraction operators warned

KUANTAN: The Kuantan Municipal Council will take to task operators who have failed to develop tourist attraction sites.

Its president Datuk Hamdan Hussin said the council found there were many tourist attractions lying idle, affecting tourism growth.

Hamdan said approaching Visit Malaysia Year 2020, it was important that Kuantan town has proper planning to promote its tourist sites.

“We found that attractions such as Cherating and beach areas are not as popular as before.

“There is a lack of promotional programmes.

“This shows that the appointed operators have failed to do their part in promoting and marketing the products, ” Hamdan said after attending the Love Our Beach programme at the Balok Water Recreational Centre here.

He added that if no action was taken to improve the situation, the operators’ contract would be terminated.

Also present was state local government and housing committee chairman Abd Rahim Muda.

On another matter, Abd Rahim said the use of Jawi script on commercial billboards and signage was still not up to the mark.

“We will give them time to do better. From January, we will be strict and will take action on those who fail to use Jawi on their signboards, ” he said. – By NIK NAIZI HUSIN
