PONTIAN: While the Chinese votes will determine Barisan Nasional’s victory in the Tanjung Piai by-election, it is important to refute fearmongering by DAP among the Chinese community, said Khairy Jamaluddin.
‘’The situation now will depend more on Chinese votes here. Their votes are what will decide who will win this by-election.
‘’So far the momentum is good but we want to be aware of the psychology war by DAP using fearmongering among the Chinese community here.
‘’They claim that a vote for MCA is a vote for Malay ultra extremism. This is worse than what DAP used to claim of Barisan in the past, ’’ he said at a Barisan Nasional ceramah in Pontian town.
Based on ground sentiments, the Rembau MP said the by-election will prove that Chinese support will not be with Pakatan forever.
He also called on the Barisan machinery not to be complacent and over confident, as ceramah attendance is not the barometer for support.
‘’That’s why the next few days are crucial, especially in refuting DAP’s racial propaganda, ’’ he said.
Also present during the ceramah were MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, Wanita chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie and Youth chief Nicole Wong Siaw Ting.
Party veteran Datuk Lim Si Cheng, who was former Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker, Kluang MCA chairman Gan Ping Sieu and Johor Umno deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed were also present.
Barisan Nasional candidate for Tanjung Piai, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, also spoke at the ceramah.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan candidate Karmaine Sardini is keeping busy meeting people.
He is making door-to-door visits for a more personal interaction.
Karmaine said this approach was a more suitable way to win the hearts of the people here who are mostly village folk.
“They do not really like to attend political ceramah, so this is a better approach.
The 66-year-old said that he tries to have enough sleep and rest as well as keep to a healthy diet.
The Tanjung Piai by-election will be a six-cornered fight between Karmaine, Wee, Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan, Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (Berjasa) and independent candidates Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar.
The by-election will be held on Nov 16 while early voting will be held today.
