INFECTIOUS laughter filled the air as 22 children from the Shan Children’s Home enjoyed their buffet breakfast at the Eastern and Oriental (E&O) Hotel in George Town.
The children, dressed in new Indian attire, tucked into hearty, wholesome meals and received Deepavali packets from the E&O team during the recent event.
E&O group strategy and communications assistant general manager Ann Tan said the initiative was part of E&O’s corporate social responsibility programmes.
“It has always been our calling to reach out to the underprivileged community.
“Weeks ago, the children were also taken on a shopping spree in Little India, where they each picked a new set of Deepavali clothing of their choice.
“In seeing these beautiful children smile, there is great satisfaction.
“We hope there will also be more support from others, especially from the corporate sector to alleviate their plight, ” she said.
Tan added that over the years, the team visited several homes within the group’s development vicinity to extend a helping hand to those in need.
“It has been an annual practice for the E&O team to enrich the community, especially the less fortunate, during festive celebration and in times of disaster, ” she said.
