A SERIES of Christmas-themed events will be held in Penang this year, starting from Dec 1 until the Grand Finale night at the Esplanade on Dec 8.
To be held from 6.30pm, the Grand Finale night will feature the lighting up of the 8m-tall eco-Christmas Tree made of recyclable items.
There will also be a series of stage performances, Christmas carols and a Christmas Market.
Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) pastor Thomas Ch’ng said the Grand Finale night will coincide with the Christmas Market for three evenings, from Dec 6 to 8 at the Esplanade.
“This Christmas Market will start from 5pm to 11pm with 40 specially decorated stalls featuring food, beverages, gifts, games and many more, ” he said.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the theme of the celebrations this year was ‘A Season of Love, Joy and Peace’.
“The first event we are going to witness is Grant a Wish (#NotForgotten), a project specially designed to bless the poor and the needy.
“The second event is the Christmas Charity Performance, ‘The Meaning of Christmas’ where churches in Penang will showcase their talents with several performances.
“The performances will include skits, stage-plays, choir, mime and many more, displaying the true meaning of Christmas, ” he said at a press conference at Komtar recently.
The Christmas Charity Performance would be held on Dec 1 at Wesley Methodist School International in Lebuh Sungai Pinang 1.
Tickets are priced at RM10 each.
