A 15% discount will be given to early-bird F&B participants who register for the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2020 by Dec 31.

SIBS is set to take place at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 14 to 17 next year, and registration can be done via Invest Selangor Bhd.

SIBS 2019 took place at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur from Oct 10 to 13.

“We almost doubled our target and recorded a total of RM447.3mil worth of business transactions over the four days, ” said Selangor investment, industry and trade, small and medium industries committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim during a post-event press conference at his office in the Selangor secretariat building in Shah Alam.

“Last year, the event recorded a total of RM194.6mil worth of total business transactions, ” he said.

Teng said the total transactions for SIBS was RM247.3mil but with the participation of the Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference (MCEC), the event saw an additional RM200mil worth of transactions.

Next year, the MCEC event will not be part of SIBS as it will be held in China.

“Even the visitor count exceeded our targeted figure as we received 34,638 compared to only 23,737 last year, ” said Teng.

The four main events of SIBS 2019 were the Selangor International Expo 2019, the third Selangor-Asean Business Conference, Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention, and Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo.

Four programmes were featured alongside which were the Malaysia International Tea & Coffee Expo 2019, the 9th MCEC, Selangor International Halal Conference and Selangor International Culinary Festival.

“We had 702 total exhibitors from 12 countries with 787 booths and 10 memorandums of understanding (MOU) signed, ” said Teng.

One of the MOUs signed was between the Selangor government with Andakan Holdings Sdn Bhd and ShazInnovation Solutions for an innovation which was created by the state.

“Moving forward, we would like to welcome more innovation exhibitions, including from overseas, so that we can continue to grow and improve, ” said Teng.

For the R&D and Innovation Expo, a total of 187 competitions were with participation from universities, schools and the public.

Next year, SIBS will be focusing on expanding the food and beverage section (F&B) of the Selangor International Expo as they aim to make it the biggest international F&B trade expo.

“In 2018, we only had 320 booths but this year we managed to get 359 booths by 307 companies, comprising 74.3% local and 25.7% foreign.

“We are targeting 600 booths next year in order to be categorised as one of the biggest trade shows in F&B, ” said Teng.

He added that events like SIBS created a platform to promote and facilitate international trade, expedite foreign direct investment and provide a platform for businesses to expand into new markets, particularly the Asean region.

“A post-mortem will be done to see which aspects can be improved on and how we can make it bigger and better next year, ” he said.

Also present at the press conference was Invest Selangor chief executive officer Datuk Hasan Azhari Idris Hassan and SIBS director Ahmad Khairo Othman.
