SWISS Watch Gallery’s signature event Art of Time — a stunning and immersive showcase of some of the world’s beloved watchmakers — returns to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur today.
Now in its sixth edition, it is Malaysia’s most unique showcase offering the experience of Switzerland’s prestigious watch fairs and an insider’s glimpse into watchmaking, a special combination that will appeal to long-time watch aficionados and draw the interest of new fans.
Art of Time 2019, which takes place until Nov 10, is headlined by Arnold & Son, Bell & Ross, Girard-Perregaux, Graham, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaquet Droz, Oris, Parmigiani Fleurier, TAG Heuer, Tudor, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith.
Expect a collection comprising noteworthy pieces such as the Jaquet Droz Tropical Bird Repeater, Arnold & Son Time Pyramid Tourbillon in red gold, Girard-Perregaux Bridges Cosmos, IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Tourbillon Rétrograde and Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda 1950 Tourbillon, to name a few.
This is the first time Girard-Perregaux, Arnold & Son, Parmigiani Fleurier and Ulysse Nardin are joining the exhibition.
All the brands are housed in a newly designed event space measuring approximately 4,000 sq ft set up at the concourse of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
Swiss watchmaking know-how spans craftsmanship from Geneva to Schaffhausen along the Jura mountain range of the Swiss Alps.
In a homage to the homeland of watchmaking greats, Art of Time 2019 invokes the look and feel of Swiss chalets with elements of wood and greenery.
Art of Time debuted in 2011 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Swiss Watch Gallery, an emporium of the most comprehensive collection of the world’s foremost watchmakers.
This year, Art of Time celebrates “Icons of Time”, which not only refers to the exquisite timepieces on show but also five Malaysian personalities who are celebrated as icons in their respective fields.
In keeping with the spirit of great Swiss master watchmakers, these icons have been selected for their dedication to the pursuit of excellence.
Spanning entrepreneurship, art and sport, they will be part of Swiss Watch Gallery’s 2020 campaign and their names will be revealed early next year.
“The idea behind Art of Time is to bring to the Malaysian market the experience of the amazing and exclusive watchmaking showcases of Basel and Geneva.
“We feel it is the best way to inculcate the love for horological instruments, and the craftsmanship and innovation that go into their creation, ” says Valiram executive director Ashvin Valiram.
The luxury, fashion and lifestyle retail specialist owns Swiss Watch Gallery.
“We have been doing this for almost a decade. We see Swiss Watch Gallery not just as a retailer but also an advocate of fine watchmaking.
“This year will be our best by far, with new brands joining our showcase for the first time, and guests can expect unique, interesting pieces, ” he added.
The luxurious interior pays tribute to watchmaking with exquisite designs, revolutionary mechanisms and breakthrough technology from 12 illustrious brands that have stood the test of time.
This year, Art of Time collaborates with Tumi, America’s leading business and travel essential brand.
A specially designed Tumi pop-up will be showcased during the exhibition, highlighting the ultra-exclusive Tumi x Chris Pratt collection inspired by the Hollywood actor’s personal packing style.
There will be a demonstration by Jaquet Droz master enameller, a virtual reality experience by Oris, a watch masterclass by Girard-Perregaux and an Italian coffee experience by illycaffe as well as a special booth featuring state-of-the-art watch winders from Orient Crown, a Singapore-based timepiece accessories company.
Visitors will enjoy shopping privileges including exclusive gifts with purchase from participating brands and Tumi x Chris Pratt carry-on luggage, special discounts and 12-month interest-free payment plan from leading banks.
