Big crowd at Ramasamy’s Deepavali do

A LARGE crowd thronged the Deepavali open house hosted by Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy.

It has been a tradition for the Prai assemblyman to welcome relatives, friends and guests at his house in Residensi Villa Mutiara, Simpang Ampat, during the festive celebration.

They were treated to sumptuous traditional foods such as briyani rice, thosai and many more.

Ramasamy, donning a white dothi (traditional indian shirt), and his wife K. Kalaiarasi, were seen greeting the guests who included DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and wife Tan Lean Kee.

He said having open house for various festive celebrations has become a tradition in this country.

“This is something unique for the country and should be continued to foster unity among the people,” he said, adding that the state-level Deepavali open house will be held in Butterworth where Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad is expected to attend on Sunday.

Also present at the open house were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, state assembly speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung, Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy, Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud and MBSP councillors.
