JOHOR BARU: The RM14mil Johor International Youth Hub is expected to be fully completed by the end of the year.

Johor youth, sports, entrepreneurship development and cooperatives committee chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said it would open its doors to the public between January and February next year.

“The hub is developed by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) on a 6.07ha land out of 20ha land owned by Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) in Hutan Bandar here.

“Once ready, the hub will provide a platform for youths to express themselves or take part in entrepreneurship or sporting opportunities available here, ” he said.

Sheikh Umar, who is also Paloh assemblyman, said this during a working visit to the hub here.

He pointed out that the hub had facilities within its compound that would attract not only youth from Iskandar Malaysia and Johor but also visitors.

Among the facilities available are an information centre and gallery, meeting pods, children’s playground, concept store and pro shops, elevated jogging track, skate park, mountain bike trail, street workout and parkour, amphitheatre and for wall climbing.

Sheikh Umar said Irda was working hard to prepare and provide the best facilities for youth.

“Johor and Irda will develop a comprehensive plan to realise our commitment to fulfil the needs of the youth.

“Apart from being a venue for sports and recreational activities, the hub will also serve as a centre for international-level creative economy activities, ” he added.

Sheikh Umar said the hub was in line with Iskandar Malaysia’s social agenda to ensure those in this region and Johor grow together with its rapid physical growth as it drives forward to be a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing.

“In general, this hub will support and encourage youth in their creative, entrepreneurship, sports and health, volunteerism, arts and culture, and other initiatives through its many facilities and offerings, ” he said.
