Lucky thing she went for Starwalk

STARWALK participant Madeline Lam did not really want to join Penang Starwalk 2019, as sporting events had never appealed to her.

“I was coaxed by a friend who works with me and decided to give it a try, ” said the 31-year-old front office staff member of a hotel in George Town.

Little did she imagine she would be the winner of the grand prize of a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and a 3D/2N stay at the luxurious Pangkor Laut Resort.

“I have now decided to attend Penang Starwalk every year!” she cried out with joy, adding that she would gladly use her new phone.

Lam, who is of Chinese-Indian parentage, said she has not decided when and with whom to go to Pulau Pangkor, but expects it will be a great holiday.

Winning the second lucky draw prize was R. Siva Priya, 37, who took home a 3D/2N stay package at Pangkor Laut Resort and a Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

“I have been participating in Penang Starwalk since I was a child, when they used to hold it at the Esplanade.

“My family has made it a tradition to take part in Starwalk.

“This year, 10 of us took part – my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, ” she said.

The business development manager said she was shocked to win the second prize.

“We almost went home because we did not think we stood a chance to win.

“I did win prizes at Starwalk in the past, but nothing close to this and it is perfect timing as my phone screen is terribly cracked and I badly needed a new phone, ” she said.

On the holiday, Siva Priya said she would probably go with one of her four siblings.

“I will go with whoever that can get leave from work, ” she said.

Meanwhile, third prize winner Muhammad Nabil Mohd Asri, 26, said it was his ‘rezeki’ (good fortune) to be a winner.

Muhammad Nabil, who walked away with the Dyson Airwrap Styler Complete set worth over RM2,000, said he would present the prize as a gift to his mother.

“Since I am a guy, I cannot really find a use for this thing and as I have no girlfriend, I would also not be able to give it to her.

“So, I will just bring this home and give it to my mum and make her happy, ” he said after the draw at Gurney Paragon Mall yesterday.

About 15,000 people joined Penang Starwalk this year.

There were 120 prizes worth RM300,000 won. Other fabulous prizes included the Apple Smartwatch 4, Sony Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, Apple AirPods, Samsung Tab A8 with S Pen, Huawei Nova 4E and mountain bikes.
