Organised by Invest Selangor, SIBS 2019 will be held from tomorrow to Sunday at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Kuala Lumpur.
“The app will allow visitors to find exhibitors’ booths, navigate around the exhibition hall and view the full summit agenda,” said Selangor investment, industry and trade, small and medium industries committee chairman Datuk Teng Chang Khim.
“It will enable B2B connections for trade visitors as they will be able to exchange messages and access the business matching service to secure meetings with exhibitors.
“It will also facilitate the registration process more efficiently to reduce long queues and mix-ups,” he said.
Teng said the SIBS 2019 app, which is available for download on the Android and Apple platforms, serves as an example of Selangor’s aim of being a smart state.
SIBS 2019 is designed to promote and facilitate international trade between businesses, expedite foreign direct investment and provide a platform for businesses to expand into new markets, particularly in the Asean region.
“The summit will have three expos with more than 800 booths from over 400 companies,” said Teng, adding that about 30% were international exhibitors while 70% were local.
“There will also be four conferences with more than 100 speakers from over 20 countries.”
Some 30,000 visitors are expected at the summit spanning a 43,000sq m space.
SIBS 2019 will feature four core events: Selangor International Expo 2019, Selangor-Asean Business Conference 2019, Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention as well as Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo.
There are also four parallel events: Malaysia International Tea and Coffee Expo, 9th Malaysia-China Entrepreneur Conference, 1st Selangor International Halal Conference and Selangor International Culinary Festival.
The international expo, which marks its fifth edition, is a four-day food and beverage (F&B) trade event offering business matching opportunities and international hosted buyer programme to engage with top F&B brands.
The business conference, themed Towards Enriching the Asean Economic Community, will see Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia president Professor Hidetoshi Nishimura delivering keynote addresses. Some 20 speakers will also be sharing their insights across two days.
The smart city and digital economy convention is a four-in-one event, spanning three days.
The four events comprise conferences entitled “What’s Next for Smart City – Artificial Intelligence, 5G and e-wallet”, One Belt One Road Anime and Gaming Summit, Malaysia Top e-commerce Merchant Awards and Mystartr Equity Crowdfunding Pitching.
“The inaugural research and development (R&D) and innovation expo will focus on learning, developing and incorporating cutting-edge innovations and technology,” said Teng.
“It will serve as a platform to gather the academia and research centres within the Selangor education clusters with the relevant industries around the region.
“There will be a total of 187 R&D competitions, open to university and school students as well as the public. In addition, there will be about 100 R&D and innovative products on exhibit.”
Selected conferences require ticket payment, while the expos are free.
