BUDDING entrepreneurs and youths in the city can look forward to some self-development activities and recreation with the setting up of 23 mini stores in Hutan Bandar, Johor Baru.

The project, covering 6ha, is being developed by Johor Baru City Council (MBJB).

The facilities and land set aside in Hutan Bandar by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) will also include a one-stop youth hub.

The hub would act as a platform for youths to enjoy and develop themselves in areas such as sports and entrepreneurship, said Irda chief executive officer Datuk Ismail Ibrahim.

“This initiative falls under Iskandar Malaysia’s youth development strategy and is based on feedback from the youths.

“Youth development is a key economic and social agenda here, as the youths will become the future leaders and players, ” he said.

Ismail added that empowering youths with skills and experience would benefit the state.

“It is important to nurture them so that they will be able to support and flourish together with the fast growth of Iskandar Malaysia, ” he said.

Slated to open in the first quarter of next year, youths will occupy the 23 mini stores at the hub.

A mini theatre, extreme games park, food court, meeting rooms and a camping ground are some of the facilities it hopes to acquire from potential partners and sponsors.

“With this youth hub, we are expecting to have bigger events with a higher number of participants throughout the year.

“The hub will be an excellent platform for growth in personal or business development for youths, ” Ismail said.
