THE Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF) received more than RM1.2mil during the Eu Yan Sang 140th Anniversary Celebration Charity Gala Dinner.
The event was graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who set up TAFF in August 2004.
TAFF’s mission is to provide financial aid to married Malaysian couples who face difficulties conceiving and are from low-income households.
The financial aid is to enable them to obtain the necessary medical help and treatment for their infertility and reproductive health issues.
In her speech, Eu Yan Sang Malaysia chairman Datuk Anne Eu said the event marked a significant milestone for Eu Yan Sang as it celebrated 140 years as a leading healthcare product company and traditional Chinese medicine provider.
“Tonight also marks a big step forward for benevolence in society as we embrace a very worthy cause that is close to our fundamental corporate belief that is, ‘Caring for Mankind’.”
“This is the second time Eu Yan Sang has organised an anniversary charity dinner to raise funds for TAFF,” she said, adding that in 2009 it raised RM1.028mil from its 130th anniversary charity dinner.
Proceeds from the charity gala dinner were raised through the pre-sale of dinner tables and the auction of a pair of signature evening stilettos and matching handbag designed by Malaysian-born Datuk Jimmy Choo. He was one of guests at the charity dinner.
Berjaya Group founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan won the bid at RM100,000 and gifted the stilettos and handbag to Tunku Azizah.
