Carnival in Shah Alam aims to set new national records

Traacs International Carnival 2019 organising committee members are all set for the October event.

TRANSNATIONAL Association of Arts, Culture and Sports (Traacs) is partnering with various international and local organisations for its upcoming carnival.

Its president Vijaya Subramaniam said the TRAACS International Carnival 2019 will be held at Ideal Convention Centre, Shah Alam, from Oct 9 to 11.

She said the carnival is supported by four ministries including the Education, Health, Home and Youth and Sports ministries and endorsed by Tourism Malaysia.

“We will invite various international bodies to assist us and judge the contests for dancing, music, chess and yoga.“Other programmes include health and dental screening as well as a blood donation drive,” she said in a press conference.

For the yoga competition, its coordinator Yogacharya Radhakrishnan said there would be participants from all states in Malaysia as well as Pakistan, Hong Kong, India, Nepal, Turkey and Russia.

“There will be two Guinness World Record holders from Hong Kong and India participating too. We intend to set a new Malaysian record with 800 participants doing a yoga pose,” said Yogacharya.

The carnival will also attempt to enter the Malaysia Book of Records for having 2,100 chess competitors,” said chess coordinator Jax Tham, adding that the current record was 1,700 participants.

There will also be a bazaar with 42 booths and food trucks at the carnival.

Registration for the competitions is open. Winners stand to win cash prizes, medals and certificates.
