SUNWAY Malls has unveiled its second retail development, Sunway Big Box, which is expected to open on Dec 18.

Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said the project was the first retail hybrid park in the country that will offer both Malaysian and Singaporean shoppers a unique retail proposition.

“The project is supported by a hotel component and an office component, which makes it a unique retail development that is planned for the future, aligned to Sunway Iskandar’s masterplan to build Nature’s Capital City.

“It will offer Malaysians and Singaporeans a different retail experience with a host of dining and lifestyle choices for their convenience. Sunway Big Box is meant to be the place for people from all walks of life to congregate, shop and socialise, ” he said at a press conference after the key tenant unveiling ceremony at Sunway Iskandar Sales Gallery.

Sunway Big Box is integrated with an upcoming 280-room hotel development, a 170,000 sq ft net lettable area (NLA) office tower and is connected to a 15.3ha extreme park component.

The project is built on a 9.7ha plot of land that has a two-floor retail cluster and spans across 500,000 sq ft in NLA, aside from offering close to 100 retail, food and beverage and entertainment stores.

Chan said the project comprised a combination of 13 large format stores that provide immersive brand experiences and regular retail outlets that were set within a green space, with a total gross development cost of RM242mil.

“The current tenancy rate is 85% and we expect to be fully occupied by end of 2020.

“The project will also create about 1,500 jobs for locals in the Iskandar Puteri area, ” he said, adding that its first retail development, Sunway Citrine Hub that was opened last year, was now fully occupied.

Chan said Sunway Big Box would also host the first Happy Fish Swim School centre in the state, complete with a 25m heated lap pool.

Another activity for visitors to indulge in is a 16,000 sq ft trampoline park known as EnerG X Park.

The community will also be able to enjoy a 30,000 sq ft BookXcess, carrying over 1.5 million books in its outlet.

Additionally, home improvement store, SSF, will feature complete show units with different sizes whilst NSK will be offering wholesale goods at competitive prices.

Sunway Big Box will be connected to the adjacent KFC, located above a petrol station, and Starbucks outlets with drive-through facilities via pedestrian bridges.
