HARD work paid off for Veronique Quah when she was crowned Mrs Universe Glittz at the Classic & Mrs Glittz 2019 grand finale in Penang.

The 32-year-old communications specialist said she put in a lot of effort and time practising for the catwalk and talent segments.

“I am very happy to win the crown. I took part in a similar competition before but I managed to get third placing only, ” she said.

Quah said she loves spending time with her child and practises martial arts during her free time.

She also won the Mrs Best Talent, Mrs Popularity, Mrs Photogenic and Mrs Personality awards.

Wholesales businesswoman Wendy Lim, 45, said she did not expect to be named the Classic Universe Glittz champion.

The mother of three from Alor Star, Kedah, said her friend persuaded her to join the competition.

“I used to take part in beauty contests but have not joined one for years.

“Back in 2015, I was the Supreme Malaysia champion and also the Supreme Asia first runner-up, ” she said.

Lim also won the Classic Beauty hair award.

The recent Classic & Mrs Glittz 2019 grand finale was held at Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort.

There were nine contestants each for the Classic and Mrs Glittz categories.

“The Mrs Glittz category is for women between 27 and 37 years old and the Classic Glittz for those between 43 and 54 years old, ” said event director Collien Teh.

She added that the pageant served as a platform for women to portray their inner and outer beauty.

“The contestants also helped in raising funds for the Friends of Childhood Cancer Northern Region (Foccan).

“We hope to create awareness on childhood or infantile cancer through the competition, ” she said.

Teh also presented a RM8,000 contribution to Foccan chairman Maznah Tayib.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee launched the event.

“Everyone here is a winner as they have gone through physical changes and have become stronger mentally, ” he said.

Lee also lauded the organiser for creating awareness on childhood cancer.
