PENANG ended the reign of title-holder Selangor, beating them 4-2 in the final of the National Interstate Under-18 Mixed Team badminton challenge.
Coach Razlan Abdullah said he was not surprised with his players’ achievements in the four-day tournament at the Penang BA Hall in Bukit Dumbar.
“I have a very strong team as five of my players had featured in the recent Asian Juniors Badminton championship, ” he said, referring to Lee Shun Yang, Tan Zhing Yi, Loo Bing Kun, Ching Kai Feng and Teoh Lexuan.
Razlan said he was grateful to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Academy as well as Bukit Jalil Sports School for releasing the players.
“Their participation strengthened the team and our chances of toppling Selangor, ” he said.
Razlan also praised his team of coaches – Lim Loh Guat, Khaw Cheow Kheng and Indonesian Frandira – for contributing to the success.
“Before beating Selangor in the final, we also had a tough tie against Johor in the semi-finals.
“We had to work hard against Johor before securing a 4-2 win. The RM8,000 prize money will be shared equally among the 10 players, ” he added.RESULTSPenang bt Selangor 4-2 (Penang’s team name first):

Mixed Doubles: Loo Bing Kun-Teoh Lexuan bt Mohd Nor Firdaus Azman-Dharshinie Vasigaran 21-13,21-9.
Boys Doubles: Ching Kai Feng-Tan Yi Han bt Mohd Nor Firdaus Azman-Wong Jimmy 21-17,21-17.
