CALLING all Starwalkers with the most number of T-shirts and certificates from past editions of the premier sporting event in the northern region.

There will be ‘loyalty’ rewards for those who bring these items to the walk’s 42nd edition in Gurney Drive on Sept 22.

Star Media Group manager (finance and administration) Michelle Tang said the top three collectors for each category — T-shirts and certificates — would be given TGIF meal vouchers worth RM250, RM150 and RM100 respectively.

She said five others in each category would receive consolation prizes of RM50 each.

“We want to reward those with the highest number of either T-shirts or certificates collected over the years.

“Show us on that day and stand a chance to win TGIF meal vouchers worth RM1,500. We believe there are Starwalkers who still keep these T-shirts and certificates over the years.

“We wish to express our gratitude to all Starwalkers for their continuous support spanning over four decades,” she said after receiving Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee at Star Media Group’s northern hub in Bayan Lepas on Tuesday.

Also present were the group’s client brand marketing general manager Simone Liong, news editor Alex Teng, IT operations head (north) Khoo Boo Taik and manager (audience management) Manimaran Muniandy.

Tang said there would be a counter near the stage area where Starwalkers could register with their collections before 9am.

Soon, who will be present for the flag-off, hoped the haze would go away for good so that participants of all ages could enjoy the 7km scenic walk.

He said parents and teachers should not put pressure on children to achieve academic excellence, but take a step back and consider promoting outdoor activities as stress relievers.

“Not every child is born to score A’s in his or her report card. Sometimes, a few hours of workout each week can help relieve the pressure from endless studying.

“A person’s future also depends on his or her attitude, social skills and positivism, which can be nurtured through involvement in various sporting events,” he said.
