STUDENTS of SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth are in high spirits at the prospect of joining the Penang Starwalk 2019.

Among them are Form Three students Cheah Khai Sem, Yip Wen Yu and Ang Jay Yang, all aged 15.

Khai Sem said this would be his third year participating in the event with his friends.

“I look forward to the event. Starwalk is a good walking event which helps improve my stamina, ” he said, adding that the event would be part of his co-curricular activities.

“Starwalk keeps me fit and healthy, which in turn helps me to concentrate on my studies.

“I will also try to encourage my other friends who have yet to submit their forms to join the event, ” he added.

Jay Yang said apart from walking with his friends, his parents and sibling would also be joining the walk.

“This is going to be a fun event. I also look forward to making new friends from other schools during the walk.”

The school’s acting principal Tang Keng Hwa said so far, 1,059 students have signed up for the walk.

“There are still many who have yet to submit their forms.

“The school has been encouraging students to take part in the walk every year as it is a good event that enables them to keep fit.

“Students here do not only focus on their studies but also take part in sports activities like Starwalk, ” he said.

Tang handed over the completed Penang Starwalk forms to Star Media Group executive (print circulation) Rajkumar Abraham at the school.

Penang youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, who was also present, said he used to take part in Starwalk every year during his schooling days.

“Those days, they would monitor the time you took to complete the walk and post the certificates to our address.

“I am still keeping my certificates from 1992 until 1999.

“After that, I went to college and could not participate because of my studies, ” said Soon, who is a former student of SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth.

He said Starwalk was a good sports activity that catered to everyone.

“Every family member can join the event and have fun together while walking.

“I encourage all families to come as a group to participate in the event.

“This is an event for families, which is aligned with our Penang2030 vision in building a family-focused, green and smart state that inspires the nation, ” he added.

Organised by Star Media Group, Penang Starwalk 2019 will be held at Gurney Drive on Sept 22.

Gurney Paragon Mall is the venue provider while the silver sponsors are Indofood (M) Food Industries Sdn Bhd, Wiitrac Elevator Sdn Bhd, Health4U Solutions Sdn Bhd, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd and Penang Turf Club.
