MELAKA: The Government will continue with its “Love MY Palm Oil” campaign to ensure the country’s palm oil production reaches 20 million tonnes annually for export as well as to attract new markets.
Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the ministry had adopted two strategies to enhance the palm oil market.
“The focus will be on increasing exports to existing markets and pursuing fresh ones.
“We are also looking at the African market to introduce the benefits of palm oil, ” he said after attending the Love MY Palm Oil cooking demonstration here.
Shamsul Iskandar said the ministry was also intensifying its efforts to promote and increase awareness of the benefits of palm oil, which is of high quality and rich in vitamins A and E.
“Some people harbour negative perceptions about palm oil, hence we are correcting this misinformation.
“Palm oil is a major commodity which has contributed immensely to Malaysia’s economy, ” he said.
Shamsul Iskandar added that his ministry was currently working with the Attorney-General’s Chambers in filing a complaint to the World Trade Organisation on the European Union’s discrimination against Malaysia’s palm oil.
