PANTAI Hospital Penang and the Lions Club of George Town Mutiara will host a Charity Family Fun Ride and Walk 2019 on Oct 20.

The event is aimed at helping the underprivileged community to raise funds for their medical needs.

More than 1,000 people are expected to take part.

The hospital’s chief executive officer Pan Wen Lek said the funds collected would be in aid of the Lions GTM-Pantai Penang Medical Fund.

“The funds allow needy patients to undergo subsidised cataract surgeries and seek other medical assistance at the hospital.

‘’It can also be used to support underprivileged patients for treatments and surgeries related to eye cataract, heart diseases, total knee replacement and other general procedures, ” he said during a press conference at the hospital recently.

Registration fee for the 38km fun ride is RM100. Riders will be flagged off from the Pantai Hospital Penang at 7am.

They will then pass by Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Gertak Sanggul, Jalan Tun Dr Awang before heading back to the hospital in Jalan Mayang Pasir.

The 5km walkathon will see participants having a walk in the Bayan Baru area starting from 7.30am. The fee is RM60 (adult) and RM30 (children).

The event will also feature free health checks, lucky draw and sponsor booths set up at the hospital’s car park area.

There will also be a mock cheque presentation by major donors at the event.

Lions Club of George Town Mutiara president Sam Miew Heng, who was also present at the press conference, said the event provided an opportunity for the people to contribute to the community while keeping fit.

She said about 200 eye cataract surgeries had been carried out under the Lions GTM-Pantai Hospital Penang Medical Fund.

Also present was past district governor of Lions Club of Georgetown Mutiara Datuk Khoo Kay Huat.

Besides the walk and ride events, Pan said the hospital would launch a new community service campaign called ‘Healthy Neighbour-hood Initiative’ on the same day.

‘’This community-based programme aims to address the needs of the local community, which directly benefits the residents within a 10km radius of Pantai Hospital Penang.

‘’Residents get to enjoy free annual health screening, free ambulance service within a 10km radius, free transportation to and from the hospital within a 10km radius, and 50% discount on room and bed charges, ” he said.

To enjoy the benefits of the initiative, a patient needs to register as a member for the Family Rewards Club at or the PantaiPg app.

Closing date for registration is Sept 9. Those interested in the Charity Family Fun Ride and Walk 2019 can sign up at
