Palm oil promotion campaign to continue

THE government will continue with its “Love MY Palm Oil” campaign to ensure the country’s palm oil production reaches 20 million tonnes annually for export as well as to attract new markets.

Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the ministry has adopted two strategies to enhance the palm oil market.

“The focus will be on increasing exports to existing markets and pursuing fresh ones.

“We are also looking at the African market to introduce the benefits of palm oil, ” he said after attending the Love MY Palm Oil cooking demonstration in Melaka.

Shamsul Iskandar said the ministry was also intensifying its efforts to promote and increase the awareness on the benefits of palm oil, which is of high quality and rich with vitamins A and E.

“Some people harboured negative perception about palm oil, hence, we are correcting this misinformation.

“Palm oil is a major commodity which has contributed immensely to the nation’s economy, ” he said.

Shamsul Iskandar added that his ministry was currently working with the Attorney-General’s Chambers on filing a complaint to the World Trade Organisation on the European Union’s discrimination against Malaysia’s palm oil.
