JOHOR BARU: A businessman has decorated his Proton X70 vehicle with pictures of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and filled his house with Jalur Gemilang in a show of patriotism.
M. Kandapan, 59, who is known for his expressive ways of showing his patriotism said he wanted to celebrate National Day in a big way and hopes to be able to meet the prime minister in person.
Apart from decorating his car, he plans to draw a kolam featuring this year’s theme “Sayangi Malaysiaku” on the floor of the entrance to his house.
“I also have ordered Jalur Gemilang shirts and pants for my family, including my wife, five children and seven grandchildren.
“As for my house, I bought and placed more than 5,000 flags around the house and on the car, ” he said when met at his house at Jalan Gunung, Bandar Seri Alam here.
“This has been a tradition for some time now and just my way of showing my love for my country, ” he said.
Kandapan said many passers-by would stop to greet him and take pictures of the flags put up.
“National Day is a celebration for all Malaysians and I want to do my bit, ” he said. — By REMAR NORDIN
