ERC session with Sarawakians set for Aug 26 and 28

KUALA LUMPUR: The Electoral Reform Committee (ERC) will engage with the public in Sarawak on Aug 26 and 28 to get feedback on enhancing the electoral system and rules.

ERC, in a statement, said the session on Aug 26 would be held at Dewan Baitulmal, Kompleks Islam Sarawak, Miri, while the Aug 28 session, at Dewan Galeri, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Kuching.

“We have been conducting such direct engagements around the country and Sarawak is the second last leg before Terengganu on Sept 4,” it said.

ERC, with the cooperation of the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), would also hold an election code of ethics and conduct workshop in Kuching on Aug 29 and 30.

The workshop would be the second after Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and subsequently in the peninsula.

According to ERC, the workshop is aimed at getting input from political parties on the definition of election offences, which would be used in drafting an election code of ethics and conduct and empowering the Election Offences Act 1954.

Political parties in Sarawak may contact ERC chief executive assistant Khairul Anwar Ahmad Nadzer at 03-8886 6365 or email for details.

ERC, set up by the government in August last year, outlined 15 agenda to reform Malaysia’s electoral system and rules, including a study on the process and mechanism for registered voters living abroad. – Bernama
