SUNDERLAND’s all-time top scorer Kevin Phillips is expecting an exciting encounter and is tipping Man City to see off Tottenham in today’s late kick off.
City were awesome in the opening fixture against West Ham and the former Black Cats striker thinks they will prove too strong for Tottenham.
“If Tottenham play like they did in the first half against Aston Villa, then Man City will run all over them. But its City first home game of the season at the Etihad and they will be eager to put on a performance for their fans, ” said Phillips.
City were knocked out of the Champions League by Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the quarter-final stage last term and will be gunning for revenge and while Phillips thinks Tottenham do have a chance, he feels that Pochettino’s first name on the team sheet should be Christian Eriksen.
“There is no doubt that he is a class act. I love watching him play and the manager should build the team around him as everything goes through him.
“That was evident when he came on against Villa and how he changed the game and upped the tempo. I would love to see him stay at Tottenham. He can split defences, score goals with both feet and Tottenham should move heaven and earth to keep the boy, ” added Phillips.
The former Leicester, Watford, Southampton and Crystal Palace striker also believes that Tottenham need to start winning something this season.
“For Pochettino’s sake and for being in that new stadium now they have to stop being the nearly men. They have no excuse now for not winning anything.”
Coming back to today’s big match, Phillips believes that on their day Man City are awesome to watch and he cannot see them losing.
“It should be a cracking game as Tottenham will also be going all out to make a statement but City should come out tops.”
