CHELSEA made a bold move by appointing club legend and all- time top scorer Frank Lampard as their new manager following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus.
Having spent just one season as manager with Championship side Derby County, Lampard is now going to come up against experienced managers like Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino.
His managerial credibility will be put to the test as Chelsea head into another challenging season after winning the Europa League and their third-place finish in the Premir League last season.
It will also be exciting for the fans as Champions League football will be coming back to Stamford Bridge after the club’s absence last season.
While other clubs across Europe were busy splashing cash buying top players, the Blues will not be able to make any new signings throughout the season due to the transfer ban.
To add insult to injury, the loss of star player Eden Hazard has left a huge void following his move to Real Madrid this summer.
However, some fans are optimistic about the prospects of academy graduates such as Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount coming through as they have already been making their presence felt.
The Blues have a reputation of wasting youth products by loaning them out often. This has not benefitted the club or the players in the past.
No academy player has come through and prospered since club legend John Terry and the appointment of Lampard is expected to change this.
The addition of highly-rated young American winger Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund is a huge boost as fans prepare for a new era under Lampard.
Finishing in the top four in the league remains the most realistic expectation for fans as they come to terms with the transfer ban affecting the team.
Lampard certainly has a huge task ahead of him and with a tough start away at Old Trafford tomorrow, fans are hoping against hope that Chelsea will be off to a winning start.
