Colourful spread of Malaysian faves

Sumptuous Khazanah Sajian Nusantara buffet dishes at the Spice Brasserie at The Light Hotel. The promotion runs until Sept 30.

CELEBRATE National Day at The Light Hotel Penang in Seberang Jaya over a feast of harmonising flavours from around the country.

Back by popular demand, the Khazanah Sajian Nusantara promotion is available at the Spice Brasserie from 6.30pm to 10pm, Sunday to Thursday until Sept 30.

Grab the early bird voucher of RM80 nett per adult before Aug 15 on a first-come-first-served basis.

The buffet is priced at RM116 nett for adults and RM60 nett for children and senior citizens.

It features a colourful spread of signature Malay, Chinese, Indian and other ethnic cuisines.

Executive chef Halim Mohamad has infused the essence of a united and diverse Malaysia into the dishes to reflect the National Day theme of #Sayangi Malaysiaku: #Malaysia Bersih.

The palate-tingling spread is bound to spoil diners for choice. Start off with the myriad appetisers, kerabu, jeruk, rojak buah and soups.

There are six types of rice — nasi dagang (Terengganu), nasi kerabu (Kelantan), nasi daging (Kedah), nasi kabuli (Johor), nasi biryani chicken and nasi biryani kambing.

Each type of rice is distinctly fragrant and tasty while the nasi dagang is deliciously paired with mackerel tuna curry.

Equally hearty in flavours is the Masakan Nusantara selection comprising gulai daging kerutup (Terengganu), lala lemak tempoyak (Perak), ketam masak lemak nenas (Johor) and ayam masak rendang minang (Negri Sembilan).

To further tantalise tastebuds are Nasi Kandar Penang offerings such as ayam hitam manis, kurma kambing, kari kepala ikan utara, takkali kelangu sambar, ketam masala and sotong sambal tumis.

Move on to the Oriental creations like Nyonya otak-otak (Melaka), garlic butter crab (Selangor), braised bean curd with pumpkin puree and seafood (Johor) and roast chicken with prawn crackers (Perak).

Western interpretations include seafood lasagna, pan-seared salmon fillet with salsa verde, lamb minced pies, penne shrimp pesto, and pan-fried lamb chop with roots vegetable and mint pesto.

From the action stalls come the signature whole lamb with special marinade, three- layer chicken shawarma (mint, tandoori and cheese), Pizza Quarto Nasi Kandar (curry flavour of chicken, lamb, seafood and cheese) as well as jackfruit pizza.

More choices consist of Chinese BBQ with Melaka rice balls, steamed dim sum, char koay teow, murtabak lasagna (six layers of bread with cheese), Penang assam laksa, lam mee and curry mee.

Complete your Merdeka gastronomic indulgence with desserts such as assorted kueh mueh, serawa durian with roti bengali, bubur cha-cha, tiramisu, mango cheese cake and semolina pudding.

Dine to the tunes of the live band performing on selected dates while the Merdeka Babies-Dine-For-Free-Buffet is applicable from Aug 25 to 29 with two accompanying paying adults.

Patrons with minimum spending of RM350 nett in a single receipt are entitled to the fortnightly lucky draw.
