Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better rescues dog with broken back in Setapak

PETALING JAYA: After more than ten years of rescuing street dogs, canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) has reached its full capacity.

However, there are instances where it still goes out to rescue dogs in dire situations - such as when a passer-by alerted MDDB to a dog crawling around in Setapak two days ago.

"It was a very bad situation and we just could not turn our backs on the dog. I went over there with three other volunteers. We secured the male dog and brought it back with us, " said MDDB rescue coordinator Irene Low.

She said that MDDB has named the dog Julius, and added that he has a broken back that is most likely caused by an accident.

"The bones have fused and the veterinarian believes the injury is at least three months old, " said Low.

Julius is now admitted at a veterinary clinic in Meru, Klang.

"Julius has a strong will to live and that is why he has managed to survive this long in spite of the odds stacked against him, " said Low.

She added that MDDB believes that Julius deserves another chance to continue living, and is raising funds to meet his veterinary expenses.

"We will be raising funds for Julius at our adoption drive at Citta Mall on Sunday (July 28), " said Low.

The adoption drive and fund raiser will be held at the mall's entrance from 11.00am to 6.00pm.

There will be about six puppies seeking homes there.

"Please give these puppies a permanent home, or they will end-up being with us all their lives, " said Low.
