IN an uplifting finale to Balik Pulau Festival 2019 where local diva, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza gave a power-packed performance at the charity concert in the auditorium of Prince of Wales International School.

The vibrant and energetic two-hour show began with the introduction of Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia led by conductor Mohd Yazid Zakaria, who oversaw an ensemble of musicians playing traditional Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan and Iban instruments.

What made the performance special was Mohd Yazid’s ability to bring the best out of every musical performance and blend them together for some great music to guest singers such as Norhasmidar Ahmad, better known as Asmidar and Azmira Arif.

The crowd was in awe with the duet performances of Asmidar and Azmira to the tunes of ‘Laksamana Raja Di Laut’ and ‘Pandang pandang jeling jeling’.

Asmidar, 33, is the winner of the ‘Bintang Asli Remaja’ in 2006 and represented Malaysia in the World Championship of Performing Arts in 2009, bagging three gold medals in the Best Vocal category.

Her first album ‘Kali Pertama’ was chosen as the Best Recording Album and Album of the Year at ‘Anugerah Industri Muzik’, while Azmira, 36, is a local from Balik Pulau who is a regular on RTM and performed at the Sultan of Brunei Silver Jubilee celebration in 2018.

The crowd was in a frenzy when Siti took to the stage, belting out hits such as ‘Kurik Kundi’, ‘Anta Permana’ and ‘Cindai.’

Siti thanked Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who is Balik Pulau MP, for bringing the concert to the island.

“This performance is in aid of the local artistes and also to bring forth the best of the musicians of Orkestra Traditional Malaysia, which has revolutionised local music since its formation in 2010,” said Siti.

Toh Puan Majimor Shariff, who is the consort of Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, was the guest of honour at the concert.
