NON-communicable diseases (NCD) are increasingly prevalent among young adults as a result of a sedentary lifestyle and fast food.
A National Health and Morbidity Survey in 2015 revealed that 17.7% of young adults aged 18 and above were found to be diabetics, 30.3% suffered from hypertension, 47.7% had high cholesterol, 30.6% were obese and 33.4% were overweight.
In view of these worrying statistics, Caring Medical Specialist Clinic is collaborating with St. John’s Ambulance Melaka Tengah Division to provide free health checks to the public on July 6, from 8am to noon.
The health check will include blood pressure, blood sugar, urine test, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, as well as cholesterol and glycated haemoglobin tests, limited to 30 persons.
Caring Medical Specialist Clinic proprietor Dr Tan Zi Jun said four doctors, including herself, would be present to provide consultation at the event.
“We would like to remind the public, who wish to get checked, to fast between eight and 10 hours prior to the event,” she added.
