Clogged drain causes flood in Taman Sentosa, Klang

The water in the monsoon drain along Jalan Dato Yusof Shahbudin 3 in Taman Sentosa, Klang is not flowing properly.

Heavily silted with wild grass and rubbish, the water is stagnant along the whole stretch of the drain and nearby residents want Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to clean it.

Due to the silt, single-use plastic bags and plastic bottles, the 750m stretch monsoon drain overflows during heavy rain and water rises up to about 0.35m on the main road, Jalan Yusof Shahbudin 3.

Resident S. Appadurai, 67, who has lived in the area for 35 years, said MPK should find a comprehensive solution as the residents have had to endure flash floods for almost a decade each time it rains.

“We have lodged complaints with MPK and even to the Klang Drainage and Irrigation Department but we were told to wait for the drainage culvert construction along Jalan Raja Nong at the end of Jalan Dato Yusof Shahbudin 3 to be completed.

“The crux of the issue is flash floods and it can be curbed if the monsoon drain is desilted,” he said.

Mohamed Hussain Maideen, 52, said the residents want MPK to supervise private contractors closely to ensure the task of desilting drains were carried out regularly.
