Cinema operator launches on-demand service for big screen

GOLDEN Screen Cinemas (GSC) is working with GDC Technology Limited to launch the first cinema-on-demand platform, GoGoCinema, in Malaysia.

GogoCinema is an intuitive and easy-to-use digital platform backed by the innovative Cinema Automation 2.0 (CA2.0) solutions of GDC Technology Ltd.

Consumers can use the GoGoCinema app or website to search for a movie they want to watch from a huge content library.

Once a movie has been selected, they can then select a preferred theatre, date and time from the number of options available.

They will have the option of selecting:

- A crowdsourced public screening, where other movie fans can join in the screening created. For this screening to go ahead, a minimum number of tickets have to be booked by a certain cut-off time; or

- A private screening option whereby the entire movie hall is booked exclusively for a private screening, making it an ideal choice for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and office parties.

“In this age of the Internet, streaming and films on-demand, we understand that consumers want to be able to watch content on their own terms,” said GSC chief executive officer Koh Mei Lee.

GDC Technology founder, chairman and chief executive officer Dr Man-Nang Chong said, “The GoGoCinema approach is modelled after home streaming platforms by letting consumers decide what they want to see, when they want to see it, and where they want to see it, but on the big screen.

GSC which operates 344 screens across 36 locations in Malaysia will be launching GoGoCinema at a few of its premium flagship sites in the country by the end of this year. GoGoCinema services will be expanded to other locations gradually.
