MORE than 1,000 guests joined the festivities to celebrate LBS Bina Group Bhd founder and chairman Datuk Seri Lim Bock Seng and his wife Datin Seri Liew Sok Bon’s platinum wedding anniversary.

Held at Wisma Huazong, the occasion also commemorated Bock Seng’s 90th birthday.

In his speech, Bock Seng’s eldest son and LBS Bina managing director Tan Sri Lim Hock San thanked his parents for their care and love on behalf of his siblings and shared the story of how the company started.

Starting out as a coffeeshop owner, Bock Seng eventually purchased two lorries in the 1960s to transport construction materials. He later ventured into the development business, laying the foundation for LBS Bina.

Hock San noted that it was especially significant to celebrate his father’s birthday and parents’ wedding anniversary together.

“We feel very fortunate that we’re able to celebrate it and our parents are very happy as well.”

He added that his parents seldom quarrelled over the seven decades of their marriage as Bock Seng built his business and Liew took care of their 11 children.

“My father’s philosophy is very simple: be humble, honest and good to others. This is our philosophy at LBS Bina and at the foundation of everything we do. This is what has made LBS Bina successful.”

He said the same philopsophy led to the establishment of LBS Foundation in mid-2015 and inspired Hock San’s involvement in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) like the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia and the Federation of Malaysia Lim Association.

Fu commended the couple for the values they have taught their children.

Bock Seng’s second son, LBS Bina executive director Datuk Joey Lim Hock Guan, was also overjoyed with the double celebration.

“I think this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so we’re making it a grand event to bring all our relatives and friends together to celebrate.”

A number of other prominent individuals also paid tribute to Bock Seng.

Tycoon Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong lauded his contributions to society and encouraged others to follow in the nonagenarian’s footsteps.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he met Bock Seng at a lunch gathering 14 years ago.

“This is beyond my imagination. They’ve been together for 70 years and have built a happy family. LBS Bina is something that he built for his children and it shows the Lim family’s prosperity.”

Star Media Group Bhd chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said, “I’d like to congratulate Bock Seng on his 90th birthday and wish him health, longevity and many more years ahead.

“I’ve attended many of the couple’s wedding anniversaries over the years and they are a fantastic pair who brought up their family very well.

“They’ve taught their children values and I know that Hock San and his brothers and sisters all love and respect them so much. It’s something that we should emulate and learn from,” Fu added.

The evening’s highlights included live music, which at one point prompted a number of Lim family members to get on stage and dance to the lively show tunes.

Later, the four generations of the Lim family appeared on stage for a group photo, the cake-cutting ceremony and a toast.

LBS Foundation also announced RM400,000 in donations to 11 institutions, including schools, hospitals, associations and NGOs.
