Run organisers hope to raise enough funds to cover Lovely Disabled Home’s expenditure and operational costs for 2020.

LOVELY Disabled Home will be organising its third annual charity run on Nov 9 called “Run for a Chance” to raise awareness on people with disabilities.

The run will be held at Citta Mall in Petaling Jaya, from 6.30am till 10.30am.

The run promotes social inclusion among the public and the community of disabled persons.

In its first edition in 2017, the run garnered 1,850 participants, while it attracted almost 2,000 participants in 2018, including 50 people with disabilities and 100 volunteers.

This year, the organisers are targeting 3,000 participants to join Run for a Chance 2019, and continue its cause to spread love and care to people with disabilities.

Run for a Chance committee chairman Tan Mei Jiun hoped that the public would come together to participate in the annual event.

She also expressed her gratitude towards the run’s diamond sponsor, BGL Group, for their contributions and hoped other companies would also come forward and provide any form of sponsorship, which would help the home to achieve its target of RM300,000.

The home aimed to raise enough funds through the run for its expenditure and operational costs for 2020.

The run’s launch was held at the Lovely Disabled Home centre in SS2, Petaling Jaya, and was officiated by Damansara MP Tony Pua, Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei and Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

The home was established in 2005 as a non-profit centre for the disabled, with an objective to provide workshops and platforms for their target group to work and interact.

The centre started with only six members with disabilities and has now increased to 62 members.

The charity run is also a platform for the home to promote its Lovely Disabled Home socks, which are packed by the centre’s members and to create opportunities for long-term jobs.

As their motto goes: “A pair of socks creates a working opportunity”; any purchase of socks will enable the centre’s members to have a stable stream of income and increase their quality of life.

Committee advisor Cecilia Chen said to encourage those with disabilities to participate, they will not be charged any registration fees.

Any individual can also contribute a minimum of RM10 to support participants under the OKU category.
