Over 50 hospitals participate in seminar on private healthcare

THE country’s first national medical and dental advisory committee seminar saw the participation of some 110 doctors from 50 private hospitals.

It was organised by the Association of Specialists in Private Medical Practice Malaysia (ASPMP).

ASPMP president Datuk Dr Balwant Singh Gendeh said it was a good platform for participants to learn about issues like professionalism, ethics, medico-legal, healthcare funding and risk management.

Speakers included representatives from the Health Ministry, Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), Medico Legal Society Malaysia, Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM), Ombudsman unit of Bank Negara and insurance companies.

There were also lectures, a debate on professional medical fees schedule and a round-table discussion at the one-day event at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur

A report would be compiled to address some of the concerns highlighted during the seminar.

Later, Dr Balwant presented a trophy to the winning debate team members comprising Dr Harwant Singh and Dr Ashim Kumar Nandy.

Also present were MMA president Dr Mohamed Namazie Ibrahim, APHM president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh and ASPMP chairman Dr Sng Kim Hock.
