Free inspection for 35 cars before Raya holidays

THIRTY-FIVE car owners will get free full inspection of their vehicles by Puspakom’s mobile truck unit in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, from 9am to 4pm on Sunday at the Berapit public market.

Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee said the inspection, which usually cost RM53, is open to locals by prior registration only.

“The event is being held as part of our Mother’s Day celebrations.

“This is the best gift for mothers who want to make sure their children will balik kampung safely during the Hari Raya holidays,” added Heng.

The event is organised by Berapit Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) with Heng’s service centre, Central Seberang Prai police, Puspakom and the Village Community Management Councils of Kampung Berapit and Kampung Besar.

“During the inspection, if Puspakom finds excessive tinted windows, action will not be taken but drivers will be advised to have the tint removed.

“Puspakom will inspect 25 items including emissions, side-slip, undercarriage, brakes and suspension.

“The traffic police will give a briefing on road safety while six lawyers will be there to give free legal advice,” she said at a press conference at the Berapit public market.

Also present were Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Asst Supt Azman Mohd Kayat, Berapit JPWK chief Tan Kuan Ling and event organising chairman Chew Phaik Sen.

Heng stressed the need for better road safety in her constituency because there were 68 accidents with one death along Jalan Berapit alone in 2017, 94 accidents with three deaths last year and 37 accidents from January to April this year.

ACP Nik Ros Azhan said in central Seberang Prai, there were 108 fatal accidents in 2017, 120 in 2018 and 63 this year between January and mid-May.
