JOHOR BARU: Johor Port, a member of MMC Group, clinched the Global Business Leadership Awards 2019 for Excellence in Port Facilities Management from Asia Pacific Business Council for Sustainability and Institute of Sustainability.

Johor Port Bhd chairman and MMC Corporation Bhd Group managing director Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohd Noh said the win was a big achievement and testament of their efforts.

“We are truly honoured to receive this award as it recognises our corporate sustainability efforts through continuous improvement in serving and helping the port industry and its community to grow in various ways.

“Our driving resolution, which is to connect local businesses to the world and efficiently facilitate international trade, remains the same.

“This conviction has helped us to earn the trust and confidence of our customers, boosting shipping major liners to continue calling at Johor Port and enabling us to log our highest volumes in five years,” he said.

Johor Port’s award was due to its performance and innovative ideas in the port industry as well as for its role and achievements in implementing the best practices within the organisation.

This achievement and best practices implementations have brought about many advantages for the shareholders, employers and customers as well.

Johor Port has been operating for about 42 years now as the premier southern gateway multipurpose port in Malaysia.

It has been continuously improving its processes and operational efficiency to earn the trust of stakeholders.

The port has evolved into a regional commodity hub with a reputation as the largest palm oil terminal in the world.

The Global Business Leadership Awards recognised Johor Port and the other winners as the benchmarks and exemplar of sustainable business practices to other organisations in accordance with the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).

The awards event was in conjunction with the 11th Asia Pacific CSR council forum themed “Advocating Sustainability as the New Normal for Business Growth”.

This forum aims to promote the idea of corporate sustainability and corporate responsibility as a holistic approach for business development on a global scale.

The Global Business Leadership Awards 2019 took place at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel and was graced by Global Business Leadership Awards royal patron Tengku Hishamuddin Zaizi.

Also present at the event were Trade and Economic Relations from the European Union Delegation to Malaysia head Nicolas Dross, Global Business Leadership Awards 2019 organising chairman and United Nations Global Compact Malaysia president Chris Daniel Wong and Asia Pacific Business Council for Sustainability president Roger Wong.
